Expanding Understanding of Quantum Technology and Strengthening Research-Business-Government Collaboration

 

Linking Consultation, Joint Research, and Incumbent Workforce Training

 

On January 9, The Sejong RISE Project Unit of Korea University Sejong Campus held the “Sejong RISE Industry-Led University Quantum Technology Commercialization Forum” at the coworking space.

 

The forum was organized in line with Sejong City’s strategy to foster quantum technology as a new industrial growth engine linked to data centers, cloud services, security, and sensor technologies. Its aim was to enhance understanding of quantum technology and related industries among companies and public-sector stakeholders, while expanding opportunities for substantive discussion.

 

The event brought together faculty members and graduate students from Korea University’s Division of Semiconductor Physics, as well as quantum technology researchers, related companies, and representatives from public institutions and local governments in Sejong City and neighboring regions. Participants shared insights on the industrial applicability of quantum technologies and explored pathways for technology commercialization.

 

The forum featured two invited lectures, followed by a Q&A session and networking. The first lecture, titled “Practical Aspects of Quantum Technology Commercialization,” was delivered by Professor Youngwoo Sohn of the Department of Advanced Technology Business at Korea University. The second lecture, “How Quantum Algorithms Work,” was presented by Panjin Kim, a principal researcher at Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI).

 

The forum was designed to provide an introductory-level understanding of quantum technology and industry while identifying future directions for Sejong RISE quantum-related initiatives. Through lectures, discussions, and networking, the event sought to assess industry demand and identify potential partner companies for follow-up programs, including technology commercialization consulting, joint research projects, and training programs for incumbent employees.

 

Min Jun Kim, an research and business professor of the Sejong RISE Project Unit, stated, “Based on the corporate demand identified through this forum, we will accelerate execution by linking technology commercialization consulting, joint research, and workforce training programs to deliver tangible outcomes for participating companies.”

 

Building on the outcomes of this forum, the Sejong RISE Project Unit plans to enhance the effectiveness of the Sejong-style research and business model by sequentially establishing working-level consultative bodies with participating institutions and companies, planning follow-up programs, and identifying joint research initiatives.
